Information about energy use from businesses within the manufacturing sector, including what types of energy manufacturers use (for example, electricity, petrol, natural gas) and how much is being used. The survey also asks about energy management practices.

- Textile, clothing, footwear and leather manufacturing
- Wood and paper product manufacturing
- Printing, publishing and recorded media
- Petroleum, coal, chemical and associated product manufacturing
- Non-metallic mineral product manufacturing
- Metal product manufacturing
- Machinery and equipment manufacturing
- Other manufacturing
The Manufacturing Energy Use Survey (MEUS) is a collaboration between Statistics New Zealand, the Ministry of Economic Development (MED) and the Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority (EECA). Information collected in this survey will feed into planning and decision making in sustainable energy policies and programmes. Currently, much information is provided by energy suppliers, but there is very little known about how energy is used. It is important to know about both the supply and use of energy. This will provide a more complete picture of the pressure on energy resources.
