In addition to estimates data available via the downloadable Excel tables, quarterly population estimates can now be accessed via Infoshare. Infoshare enables users to create, view and download their own customised tables.
Excel tables
If you do not have access to Excel 97 or higher you may use the Excel file viewer to view, print and export the contents of these files.
Notes
National population estimates from 30 June 2006 onwards were obtained by updating the base population (at 30 June 2006) for births, deaths, and net migration of residents during the ensuing period.
The population at 30 June in each census year (1996, 2001 and 2006) is based on the census usually resident population count with adjustments for residents missed or counted more than once by the census (net census undercount), and for residents temporarily overseas on census night.
Population estimates for the years 2001–2006 have been revised using results from the 2001 and 2006 Censuses. These revised estimates are contained in the downloadable Excel files included above.
Infoshare tables
Quarterly national population estimates by sex and single-year of age, five-year age groups, and broad age groups are available via Infoshare. Infoshare enables users to create, view and download their own customised tables. Estimates by age and sex are available under demography age estimates in the Population subject category, while estimates for all ages by sex can be accessed from demography population estimates.
