Arrivals push up net migration

Highlights

  • Visitor arrivals (175,700) were up 2 percent from July 2007 (173,000).
  • There were more visitors from Australia (up 1,200) and France (up 700), but fewer from China (down 900), Korea and Taiwan (both down 700).
  • New Zealand resident departures (202,200) were up 9 percent from July 2007 (185,500).
  • There were more trips by New Zealand residents to Australia (up 3,700), Fiji (up 1,800) and the United States (up 1,700).
  • Permanent and long-term arrivals exceeded departures by 800 on a seasonally adjusted basis.
