Overseas visitor arrivals up 2 percent
Highlights
Visitor arrivals (322,200) were up 2 percent from December 2007 (317,300).
There were more visitors from Australia (up 7,100) but fewer from Korea (down 2,700), the United Kingdom (down 1,900) and Japan (down 1,600).
New Zealand resident departures (187,300) were down 6 percent from December 2007 (199,700).
New Zealand residents departed on fewer trips to Fiji (down 1,400), China (down 1,300) and the United States (down 1,100).
Permanent and long-term arrivals exceeded departures by 300 on a seasonally adjusted basis.
