International Travel and Migration: December 2008

Highlights

  • Visitor arrivals (322,200) were up 2 percent from December 2007 (317,300).
  • There were more visitors from Australia (up 7,100) but fewer from Korea (down 2,700), the United Kingdom (down 1,900) and Japan (down 1,600).
  • New Zealand resident departures (187,300) were down 6 percent from December 2007 (199,700).
  • New Zealand residents departed on fewer trips to Fiji (down 1,400), China (down 1,300) and the United States (down 1,100).
  • Permanent and long-term arrivals exceeded departures by 300 on a seasonally adjusted basis.
