A second media release – Harvests increase for wheat, barley, and maize grain – was released on Thursday 18 February 2010.
At 30 June 2009:
- Sheep numbers fell to 32.4 million, down 5 percent from 2008.
- Dairy cattle numbers reached 5.8 million, up 4 percent from 2008.
- The total area planted in wine grapes rose to 32,960 hectares, up 11 percent from 2007.
During the year ended 30 June 2009:
- 408,400 tonnes of wheat were harvested, up 19 percent from 343,400 tonnes in 2008.
- 449,800 tonnes of barley were harvested, up 10 percent from 408,700 tonnes in 2008.
