Accommodation Survey: May 2010

• Domestic guest nights were down 10 percent and international guest nights were almost unchanged.
• Total guest nights were down 6 percent.
• Guest nights in the North Island were down 4 percent, while guest nights in the South Island were down 9 percent. 
• Canterbury had the largest decrease in guest nights and the Auckland region had the only increase.
• Motels had 11 percent fewer guest nights, while hotels were the only accommodation type with more guest nights, up 3 percent.

Hotels had their highest ever share of total guest nights, at 40 percent.
