Domestic guest nights down in May
Highlights
Compared with May 2009:
Domestic guest nights were down 10 percent and international guest nights were almost unchanged.
Total guest nights were down 6 percent.
Guest nights in the North Island were down 4 percent, while guest nights in the South Island were down 9 percent.
Canterbury had the largest decrease in guest nights and the Auckland region had the only increase.
Motels had 11 percent fewer guest nights, while hotels were the only accommodation type with more guest nights, up 3 percent.
Hotels had their highest ever share of total guest nights, at 40 percent.
