Industry sectors

Industry statistics measure the activity and performance of businesses that process raw materials and manufacture goods in factories, or provide related services to these producers. Industries include tourism, construction, energy, information technology, manufacturing and production, biotechnology and communications.

	Accommodation Statistics about accommodation include data about capacity, occupancy rates, and guest nights for the commercial accommodation industry.
	Agriculture, horticulture, and forestry The Agricultural Production census and surveys collect information about animal farming, crop growing, and forestry and farm practices (including irrigation and fertiliser use).
	Alcohol availability Statistics about alcohol availability contain estimates of the quantity of alcoholic beverages available for consumption in New Zealand.
	ANZSIC06 - industry classification The Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC) was developed to reflect the structure of Australian and New Zealand industries and improve the comparability with other countries’ statistics.
	Construction The construction industry builds, alters and repairs residential and non-residential buildings.
	Energy New Zealand's energy industry includes production, and distribution of electricity, gas and petroleum-based energy products.
	Film and television Statistics about film & television report on businesses involved in the screen industry.
	Imports and exports New Zealand's overseas trade statistics include the value and volume of imports, exports, and overseas cargo.
	Information technology and communications The information and communication technology (ICT) industry includes production and sales of ICT goods and services.
	Manufacturing and production The manufacturing industry produces goods from raw materials or assembles products from components.
	Retail trade Retail trade statistics measure the sales of a wide range of businesses that provide household and personal goods and services.
	Science and biotechnology Statistics about science and biotechnology report on the use, production, and spread of biotechnology and the size of the biotechnology sector.
	Tourism Tourism statistics include information about expenditure by domestic and international visitors, its contribution to GDP, tourism employment, and arrivals and departures by overseas visitors and New Zealand resident travellers.
	Wholesale trade Wholesale trade statistics measure sale or resale of new or used goods to retailers, including businesses or institutional (including government) users.
