Food Price Index: August 2008

In August 2008 compared with July 2008:

• Food prices rose 2.7 percent.
• Fruit and vegetable prices rose 9.6 percent, driven by higher vegetable prices.
• Grocery food prices rose 1.9 percent.
• Meat, poultry and fish prices rose 2.6 percent.
• Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food rose 0.5 percent.
• Non-alcoholic beverage prices rose 0.3 percent.

From August 2007 to August 2008:

• Food prices increased 10.6 percent.
